NATURAL HIGHS OF CHILL: ESSENTIAL OILS THAT HELP YOU UNWIND: HOW AND WHEN TO USE THEM AND HOW MUCH
Use good-quality, pure essential oils. These complex fragrances can't be duplicated in the laboratory, so avoid synthetic versions.
The best oils for relaxation are lavender or lavendin, marjoram, orange, rosewood and sandalwood. They arc great to use whenever you are stressed or can't get to sleep, as well as in the evening after a hard day's work.
You can use essential oils however you wish - put a few drops on your pillow to help you sleep, in your bath to make it even more relaxing, or directly on your clothing or a scarf to carry with you wherever you go. Scent a whole room with aromatherapy burners or diffusers, or simply sprinkle drops on the carpet, curtains and soli furnishings like cushions.
For a relaxing massage, you need to blend pure essential oils with a 'carrier' oil (such as sweet almond oil, available in health food stores), adding 5ml of essence to 115ml of carrier oil. Make your own relaxing perfume by mixing your favourite essential oils in a small amount of carrier oil just as you do for massage. For bath oils, use just 60ml of carrier oil, blending it with 5ml of essence.
Where to Find Them
A variety of essential oil blends designed to keep you relaxed and calm can be found in most health food stores.
Any Precautions?
A small number of people are sensitive to certain oils. You can test yourself by putting a drop on your skin. II your skin becomes red or itchy, you are sensitive to this oil and it's best to avoid it.
